..from beautiful Boone, North Carolina.
My friends Cameron, Chris and I came up here for the weekend. Chris has two friends that live up here. They invited us up for the long weekend and we happily agreed. I was originally a bit skeptical to come up and stay with people I did not know, but that fear was put to rest when we arrived.
These two guys are among the nicest people I have met in a while. One even has an event planning company, which is exactly what I went to school for. He has set the nicest tablescapes for us for each of our yummy meals. These guys can cook.. let me tell you! I even have my own room with an adjacent bathroom. I feel like I am being spoiled at a ritzy hotel.
When I looked out of my bedroom window yesterday morning, this is what I saw...
Snow.
It was just a light dusting and was gone within an hour, but it was so nice to wake
up and have a nice surprise.
The first thing we did is to head into downtown Boone. It has this great feel of a small town, which is fun. There are lots of fun shops along the main street.
I think we hit each one.
I did find a hat that I really liked in one of them...
...but sadly, it did not go home with me.
There was a really neat house along the main street. The house was on the old side, but nothing special. I fell completely in love with the stairs leading up to it and had to take some pics.
I can completely see that pic in black and white on my wall.
The first thing that we did today was take a tour of the mountain on which our new friends live. It was the former home to a religious cult. Unique religions and cults are fascinating to me, so I really enjoyed our trip around the mountain. I took 130ish pictures and will share them, along with some of the stuff I learned, in a future blog entry.
Afterwards, we went into downtown Blowing Rock. It is another small town close to their house. I had my camera, but never really pulled it out except to take this silly picture of Cameron with this sign that he liked. There were lots of fun shops there, too.
I even found a yarn store. It was a good one, too! It was comfortable and I probably would have hung out and knit for several hours if I could have. It was funny to be in there with the boys because they had never experienced life in a yarn shop before. They were taking silly pictures of me and causing a small ruckus. I thought it was hilarious and I think the gal working thought it was funny. Hopefully. I did buy some great stuff from her, so it was worth it either way.
Tonight was spent enjoying the company of our hosts. We had a nice dinner and then just sat around chatting and watching episodes of this fun web series I found. It is nice to be staying with new friends who I feel completely comfortable around.
So... we are having a great weekend. I do not want to come home tomorrow.
Wish you were here.
Stay tuned...
